On this endless crest, The wind chokes dreams with ice. Unheard, I promise doom. “Brother,” may you perish! Careful now, the white line narrows. Your benign smile quickly vanishes. A push; torpid, Unbelieving eyes. I watch the fall. And silently, I wonder: Old summits, slow decay, We are the strong, yet still we crawl. Red glows the horizon – Eternal fire. We starve, then we rot In the name of the truest god. Sire, Call me defiler! But there are no ties holding me. In these wastelands, lovers come asunder and I tell the liar: Blood hails steel – Steel hails fire. With a heaving chest, I run down secret paths To find, in the cave where we’d hide, Uninvited guests by your side. My gift, my rage, my hammer’s kisses For every conniving pate. No guile, no game. Their throes compose An inebriant hymn. Blood hails steel – Steel hails fire. In winter, we drown in snow. In spring, we drown in water. In summer, foul eggs burst, We drown in blood. Ferakhia. Hardship, pain, penury. Karakh, chthonic terror. The numbing frost, short-lived relief. Under lurid skies, I flee the tainted ground. Shattered fists. This deed so dire. Blood hails steel – Steel hails fire. I keep wandering. Frozen, my heart retreats. Blood hails steel – Steel hails fire. Of sanity, A hole remains. In the end, the light wanes. Blood hails steel – Steel hails fire. The crests unmoved, Flashing laughter, Primal fear as I slowly tire. Blood hails steel – Steel hails fire.

Verene 05:20
Ooh, when I saw your huge silver eyes On the battlefield, I knew you were my demise. Your kiss awaits those who die Shouting battle cries. White curls, full lips, Verene, you’re the goddess of war. I saw you swinging that morning star, And in passing You crushed my heart. I can’t take it. Steel is blasting leggings. Oh, Verene! Goddess of war, Know, you are my goddess of love. All around the world and in vales almost forgotten, They praise your mercy and charity; building temples to hail your love. But I, a poor soul, hold the sword, still trembling, Push it through woven wire, A slave to your desire. Ooh, where all waver under your eyes, I stay my hands. Have your way with my device. Your kiss so tender I could die As I sigh my battle cry. All around the world and in vales almost forgotten, They praise your mercy and charity; building temples to hail your love. But I, a poor soul, hold the sword, still trembling, Push it through woven wire, A slave to your desire. All my life deprived of glory. So puny my arms; no test of strength I ever won. Insignificant. Unnoticed. Still, you had good reason to choose me, Verene. All around the world and in vales almost forgotten, They praise your mercy and charity; building temples to hail your love. But I, a poor soul, hold the sword, still trembling, Push it through woven wire, A slave to your desire. All around the world, exploring vales covered with thicket. A sole purpose on my mind: I ride towards the sun to war with love. Yes, I, a poor soul, hold the sword, still trembling, Push it through woven wire, A slave to your desire.

Perched on jagged cliffs, Kerszh looms above the shades. Where in the mangroves, Vermin slither through the glades. Once the masters ruled us all. Now they are breeders of an ill doctrine. We’re forced to act, decisive, clandestine. We are stacking pyres For a most noble cause. We all have come together, Yes, without these freaks the world will better. The healing power: blood lies. Sweet whispers to raise the heat. Harken to the glorious sound! To battle! Wither with me! In the black of night, We prepare the vulture’s feast. Cut down the guards on my command. Unseen: the wave that sinks the land. They use our skin for parchment, Young fat for secret potions. Rancid temple; burn the wisdom! High time to rush into oblivion. We shall return to the sea, Stride down the old path Towards sunken graveyards. We shall return to the sea, Recite this obituary And live complacently. In the black of night, We prepare the vulture’s feast. Cut down the guards on my command. Unseen: the wave that sinks the land. To all who lurk and couch tonight, I light a greeting fire. I count on you to flush the land. A hidden wave at my command. Alliance: dark and foreboding. Blood: the currency of power. Woe to those deserving! Gaze at the plunging breaker! I’m no minion. I chase dominion. In the black of night, We prepare the vulture’s feast. Cut down the guards on my command. Unseen: the wave that sinks the land. To all who lurk and couch tonight, I light a greeting fire. I count on you to flush the land. A hidden wave at my command. Lust for dominion. Raze the gates, My assiduous minion! Sweet whispers raise the heat but Cold is my blood.

His urge for unbound life Went awry. An empty hole inside. But this warrior-breed Will never kneel. They left the cursed dales to grief Just to fry in the cruel sun. They shackled him for fights And reveled in the sight. Dishes like leather, ‘till he found a Stone to smash those dastards. Skulls blasted. Hunting now; he went for their beards, Was squeezing out the eyes When the cook wailed: Onn Hann’ar! He bathes In gore and intestines. Other men are like lice, get crushed alive. Fear; the wolf haunts the dunes And traders shed Tears of blood. When he raids death comes surely. Look into his eyes and freeze! His breath means death. When he turns on you, you cannot outrun him. From behind, he impales you, laughing. Onn Hann’ar! He’s jabbing, driving Holes into your twisted body. A million, all too small For you to die quickly. He is so menacing. If he prods, death comes slowly. In Eelion, gem of the desert, Adverse fate led him into Naelle’s fold. The altar’s calling for you. Preach! Passionate flesh coated in baneful steel. Blinding sorcery. From the forge, Rise with a half mad cry! Stole the velvet warmth, tender no more. Now cold, yet stiff and deadly. No Farewell to the art of making love, Only the delirious gluttony of bloodlust.

Wastrels 03:40
Locked in fearful frenzy, Gripped n’ dragged into the crossfire. Pray to a true eye’s arsenal. And they’re dropping like flies – as you cry: Beware the light coming through! There is no escape from here. Despite the vow that you took – I knew it – you can’t take it no more. But we are the bloody Wastrels of War. Pray in her name tonight, oh-oh! Bold steel is twinkling bright. Let’s gather some heads, alright? Let none of These paltry wimps Escape alive. Slaughter is the way. Our wisest women say: Go plow the killing ground and save Your wailing sound for the whores! Wicked eyes are scanning the hole. Only run when the Nether Priest Points out the gates down to the mines. I struggle so hard to get you past the lines. We are the bloody Wastrels of War. Pray in her name all night, oh-oh! This gleaming edge, an elating sight. I’ll gather their heads, alright? Their sacrifice Makes me feel alive. Slaughter is the way. Our wisest women say: Go plow the killing ground and save Your wailing sound for the boars! You keep lamenting that she rapes us day by day. But we are her wastrels. Every woman, child, and man: Quit the whining, show me your white teeth, and keep smiling! I’ll stroke their heads tonight, oh-oh, Blood-soaked, a breathtaking sight. We were her wastrels The moment we strode into the fight. Slaughter is the way. Our wisest women say: Go plow the killing ground and spare Us that wailing sound for good!

The tide hides woeful fires. I reel. Down, broken and lost. You will never rule here. Your whole destiny’s a lie. Listen: when swords sing lullabies, I will follow you. Sworn. Face white, behind the brazen glass – Oh love, I promise I will never be too far. We can’t flee from dust nor hide from decay. Beneath the unyielding skies, our souls are chained. Brought low, covered in ashes: Timeless ghosts call on me. Death, I shall deliver. In memoriam, I spill this crimson river. Hush! Sleep now, forevermore, while The blood runs in gushes Through my broken fingers! All the dead, the carnage. My heart in violent pain. We can’t flee from dust nor hide from decay. Beneath the unyielding skies, our souls are chained. Brought low, covered in ashes: Timeless ghosts call on me. Death, I shall deliver. In memoriam, I spill this crimson river. The seer’s Giver, Will be turned into a crimson river. No, time can’t heal these wounds. I’m worn down, Drained. My love is Calm at last.
7.
At the waterfront, the waves assault Walls of rock in suicidal frenzy. Eons of war, until the cliffs bow to the sea. Blue maws close, drooling with unrelenting jaws. Breaker, I’m sentient. In my veins runs violence. I’ll hit granite and if I am to be crushed: Belt out chants of war, Songs of victory, And stir the maelstrom with your roar To erase our untimely gloom. Impregnable forts defend the high ground. But we are like the surf, will never run dry. Exult and recite! No doubt you will join the fight. To lofty hymns, our armies clash. Lo and behold the wonder: all the lives linked by fate. And all those we break reverberate, Are uplifted by the roar, The chants of war, The songs of victory. With ardent zeal, we fall. So bright. And I see the shoals, endless; one world shining. We have veered off the gray fog. Prane Koren leads. Soon we shall break down another wall. We just go where the flames blaze and shut up the sobs. Seems to be all we ever knew. If you need a solution, start prowling the ruins humming a song. And all those who chant wring peace from folly. And all those who sing cannot be overcome. Cheers for the roar, The chants of war, The songs of victory.
8.
In golden liquid, I Numbly drift away as time slips right through my closing fists. Tell me about the light in the crevice Where leeches dwell. My sight blurs. Must I dive down To this riverbed? On glowing currents, habeli rides my mind. Dissolved lore represses grief. My scars fade away. The Giver’s embrace reveals Neekog’s true face. Am I destined to be the League’s last devotee? I don’t float alone. All the sages that I have slain swim with me again. Under aureate streams glitters your eternal realm, untouched by the shadows Of the Torch where you burned in vain. Serene wit, I fully backed the schemes of my one true love. I was enthralled by our people’s deal and if she were alive, I’d have never left her side. So, I strayed... The Giver seeps through our ways, Gnawing laws; a favor! The ulcerous past and future are gone and The now has escaped to nowhere. Well, you lead me astray, cannot feel my body’s frame. I sink down, tranquilly, was never offered a more convincing aim. Hold on friend, that soul can feel me. A gentle touch and it says that it used to feed on pain. I pet its belly and reply: I found no repose In all the dying that I’ve seen. Only here the anguish fades away. Hence, I dream all night. The cycle can never die. And how I marvel at the Brewer’s wisdom. Who can breed, Ignite the spark of innocent life? The Giver’s flow is without end, Will last inside the heart, which is purely given away. As I drink, quiescence comes to me. And as I drink, my vision settles. I am wide open. United, cannot be dissected. Analysis; futile exercise. A sudden retch, and saliva wets the beach. Finally, I regorge. Astounded eyes blink moistly. All curled up, Beauty beholds the light of day. Once, I was driven by vengeance, now, I give life. Embraced, given peace. The wheel is nudged, can’t be stopped.

DYING VICTIMS PRODUCTIONS is proud to present MEGATON SWORD’s highly anticipated debut album, Blood Hails Steel – Steel Hails Fire, on CD, cassette and vinyl LP formats.

It was but November of last year when MEGATON SWORD unleashed their glorious debut EP, Niralet, via DYING VICTIMS. Arriving fully formed, virtually without warning – no prior demo recordings existed, at least not publicly – this Swiss quartet evinced an ages-old sound that was wise (and wizened) well beyond their young years. Already, MEGATON SWORD knew the mystery of steel…and wielded it with a startling confidence. And no one knew just how high they could fly, only that they were just getting started.

Now, with the arrival of their imminent debut album, Blood Hails Steel – Steel Hails Fire, MEGATON SWORD are marching into the halls of greatness, with no one to stop them. Retaining the same, well-named lineup – vocalist Uzzy Unchained, guitarist Chris the Axe, bassist Simon the Sorcerer, and drummer Dan Thundersteel – MEGATON SWORD maximize the strengths of the EP and then some, revealing new twists to that mystery of steel whilst retaining the charisma and crunch that endeared them to the true-metal underground the first time around. Indeed, Blood Hails Steel – Steel Hails Fire is aptly titled, almost ridiculously so: this is true-as-steel HEAVY METAL drunk on high fantasy and the enduring themes of conquest and valor, triumph and tragedy, but rendered in a form even bloodier and possessing more bravado. It’s also more dynamic, maximizing drama between notes and from one passage to the next, each movement a narrative crucial to their conquest. Those notes are suitably wrapped in a production that’s powerful in its clarity and pure in its intention, revealing MEGATON SWORD as both craftsmen and warriors, and never sacrificing grit on the altar of perfection (or vice versa).

Above all, Blood Hails Steel – Steel Hails Fire is comprised of legitimately awesome SONGS that stick in your head immediately, even when traveling upon a winding, suitably epic path. Each one of the eight contained herein feel far vaster than their succinct track times suggest; credit is thus due to MEGATON SWORD’s firing-on-all-cylinders songwriting. Or perhaps it's the patient pacing they employ, which they first revealed on Niralet, allowing each bellow of bathos and push of pathos to ring out and as true as possible; perhaps it's the passion and machismo dripping from every element, every drop of blood, sweat, and tears tangible and intense; or once again, perhaps it's the band simultaneously sounding timeless and fresh, safely evading both rote "retro" throwback and over-modernity in kind, and doing it more effortlessly than ever. Either way, MEGATON SWORD have delivered an album both bold in its ambition yet urgent in its delivery – truly, the thing that classic debut LPs are made of.

With Niralet, we made references to '80s Manowar, Warlord, and Manilla Road as well as early Running Wild and Nasty Savage, but with Blood Hails Steel – Steel Hails Fire, MEGATON SWORD truly sound like no one but themselves: the growth is palpable, but not once overextended. And graced again with unforgettable cover art courtesy of Adam Burke, one of the best debut albums of the year is ready to be wielded!
